Talking with My Mouth Full

Get your mind out of the gutter. This is all quotes about food and life meet photos of local joints and homemade dishes.

Jean Girard: I will let you go, Ricky. But first, I want you to say ‘I love crepes.’Cal Naughton Jr.: Don’t you say it, Ricky. These colors don’t run!~Talladega Nights
After weeks of trying to coordinate with Trish, we finally got together for crepes at Crepes-a-Go-Go in Gaithersburg.
We ordered two crepes- ricotta and raspberry jam with Nutella, and roasted eggplant with peppers and herbed feta. And split them down the middle because nothing beats a little sweet and a little savory when you’re looking down the barrel of the morning after St. Paddy’s Day.
No shots of the insides, sadly, because we were too busy eatin’ and talkin’. Parfait!

I still love making hamburgers on the grill. I guess whenever I eat them childhood memories come up for me. ~Bobby Flay

I can’t believe I’m going to say this, because I think Bobby Flay is a bit of a drip (he vomits childhood memories- what the…?), but Bobby Flay’s Burger Palace is OUTSTANDING. I would forgo Five Guys, kick Kraze to the curb (again), and skip… all those other burgers for another patty at Bobby Flay’s.

I got the Napa Burger, medium rare, with goat cheese and honey mustard topped with mesclun. And a cactus pear margarita frozen, with salt. And that burger sauce. Nom. Perfect burger to bun ratio, pretty pink the middle. So good. Pricey, but worth it.

There will most definitely be a next time.  Oh yes.

The journey of a thousand pounds begins with a single burger. ~Chris O’Brien

For President’s Day I slept in until the princely hour of 8am, then went into Bethesda because free parking on a federal holiday? Sign me up!

Lunch at Kraze Burgers was okay, but nothing all that special. I got the Classic burger (tomato, onions, pickles, ketchup, and mustard- cheese was extra and lettuce was on request) and a soda for $9. It was good, but messy- a 4-napkiner. Not in a “juicy burger” way, but in a “they went a little nuts with the mustard and ketchup” way. And I’m not a fan of burgers that have a high bun to meat ratio. Thumbs down on this one. Down, I say.

I found a vegetarian cookbook on sale for $8 at B&N. After a trip to Kraze Burgers, and the tummy ache I’m having, I’m thinking the all-veggie thing might be a good idea.
