Bread feeds the body, indeed, but flowers feed also the soul. ~The Koran
Squash blossoms feed the body as well. (Cucumber blossoms might work too, but I haven’t tried one yet.) Wonder how they taste on a salad?
Next up to try- nasturtium leaves. Because, why not?
Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns. ~George Eliot
Where I live, just outside the city, it’s still green and summery, but up in the mountains of southeastern Pennsylvania summer is tipping into mellow fall. We picked vegetables, checked on the bees, set up the deer feeder, gathered up the black walnuts for shucking, and enjoyed the sunset over the field. Soon there will be a sweet smell in the air as the leaves fall, a chill will creep in at night. Delicious autumn!
Shipping is a terrible thing to do to vegetables. They probably get jet-lagged, just like people. ~Elizabeth Berry
There’s something very satisfying about growing your own veggies. I can go a mile from home and find a handful of wide awake-looking little green tomatoes, a spunky cucumber, and some brightly colored squash blossoms waiting for me. Fresh, green, and new. And ten-to-one they’ll taste better than anything I get at the store. Just say ‘no’ to veggie jetlag.
Watering the garden. It’s a late season planting: squash, basil, okra, and cup from Yola that’s made of corn. Watch this space- if that cup’s really compostable I’ll find out!
